2015 wedding trends to look out for at the Wedding Expo

Your wedding day should be one of the most romantic, exciting and unforgettable days of your life. The Wedding Expo taking place on the 14th and 15th March 2015 at the dome in Northgate, Johannesburg is the place to visit to transform your wedding into that extraordinary experience. A wedding has it all – fabulous dresses, a wonderful venue, a celebratory cake, all of which combine to make it the best party you can dream of. But for every season, there is a hot new trend to embrace and Time Out caught up with the PRO of the Wedding Expo, Alison Fyfe-Turck to share the latest wedding trends couples can explore on their big day.

Say yes to that dress
The big trend in wedding gowns has always been embellishment, but this year, 3D cut-out floral embellishment appliqués are the hottest of hot trends. Say yes to layers of embellishment, tulle, bead work, lace and satin. Think of a mix of high fashion drama and eye-catching backs, sparkly beading, intricate lacework and varied necklines. We’re exploring delicate details that stand out on sheer fabrics and help to create an elegant look and feel. Team your stunning gowns with a pair of statement earrings or a striking cuff bracelet and the impression is complete.

Flower power
When it comes to wedding flowers, every bride wants hers to be special, memorable and a cut above the rest. It’s true that in this instance, bigger is often better. When a table display just won’t do, floral installations in are nothing if not memorable! Not only do floral installations create a spectacular backdrop for photo opportunities, they’re also guaranteed to make a lasting impression on your guests. And if you’re not mad about flowers, a foliage backdrop can be just as striking, especially if you mix textures and add in fun lettering or signage. Fun, life-size letters or symbols lend themselves to creating a fantastic centrepiece – and they will make a photo booth backdrop with a difference. If you’re on a budget, select larger, less expensive blooms or opt for layers of foliage. A simple garland backdrop behind the main table creates the perfect photo frame. Pair it with a vinyl phrase that’s easily applied, and you have a unique statement.

Gaga for Greenery
Eco-friendly weddings are on the rise as couples move towards more natural weddings. Foliage is nature’s answer to organic, budget-friendly décor that lends itself to just about any theme or venue. “It’s possible to create magical arrangements, from hanging arrangements, wreaths and bouquets to chair décor and hair garlands, using only foliage. Greenery allows the arrangements to be lush without going overboard with flowers, and believe it or not, glam can be achieved with rustic details,” she said.

Flavour’s in Favour
Forget vanilla and chocolate, it’s all about being clever with unusual flavour combinations for the centerpiece wedding cake. Think flavour pairings that are cause to pause – honey, lavender, coconut, lime. Another adorable trend is personalisation, with couples putting their own individual stamp on their ceremonies and receptions. All the details speak to who the couple are  it’s about creating wedding memories that are very intimate and unique.

Food provenance
Farm-to-table dining is a huge trend that’s only likely to gain momentum, as brides and grooms start asking their caterers more details about locally grown and locally sourced ingredients served in fresh and innovative ways.
