Sithole contract extension dependent on more silverware

Mochudi Centre Chiefs’ title winning coach has one year remaining on his two year contract with the newly crowned champions. The club could be at risk of losing him at the end of the 2015/2016 season if they do not tie him to a new deal.

Magosi lost Madinda Ndlovu to Township Rollers two seasons ago in a similar manner as they had not extended his deal well in time. Ndlovu had led Chiefs to successive league titles but the club’s hierarchy was divided in terms of their standing on his future. Some suggested that failing to deliver the Mascom Top 8 title frustrated the Kgatleng giants’ management and explained their reluctance to extend his deal when it expired.

The champions’ management hinted that they could extend Sithole’s deal but also revealed that he has fulfilled half of his contractual obligations. They are yet to win the Mascom Top 8 and it is a trophy the club’s hierarchy craves the most. Winning the coveted trophy would mean an automatic fulfillment of the contractual targets set by the club.

English Champions Chelsea were known to be trigger happy when their managers failed to win the elusive UEFA Champions League trophy they had chased for a long time before their 2012 triumph. TP Mazembe also had the same mentality when it came to the CAF Champions League (before they won it).

Both mentioned clubs seemingly overlooked league glory in pursuit of trophies they had not won and parted ways with their coaches in order to get individuals they feel would deliver the elusive prizes. Magosi, on the other hand, are yearning for the Top 8 trophy that has evaded them for four years but they believe that Sithole could be the right man to lead them to glory next season.
“We have a two year agreement with him and we are satisfied with the work he has done so far. We will assess the contract when the time is right. Continuity is important in football and we are confident that he can achieve more with him at the helm. Nothing makes us doubt his abilities to take us forward but he has partially fulfilled his targets. The Mascom Top 8 will be up for grabs next season and it is a trophy we would like to win. All the attention should be focused on celebrating our league victory,” the club’s Public Relations Officer Clifford Mogomotsi stated.
