Rollers downplays Masule’s exit as a result of ill discipline

Township Rollers have denied accusations that goalkeeper Mwampule Masule’s recent loan move to BDF XI as a result of some misconductwhich the club could not take anymore. The national team third choice keeper joined the army side on a season long loan deal at the start of the season after Rollers decided on signing one of their former youth products in Kabelo Dambe, who was released by Platinum Stars prior to the new PSL season.

Despite the news not rubbing off well in the faces of some Popa die hards, who believed the young keeper had a big role to play after showing his heroics in a season that won the “Blue and Yellow” the league title last year, his departure  has been linked with irregular behavior.

Rollers’ spokesperson Bafana Pheto has however rubbished the allegations against the 24 year old, highlighting that it was the player who initiated his loan move from the club.

“It was BDF XI who approached us on the services of the player since we had four keepers, we had refused to let him go for a while until he (the player) asked to be loaned out,” said Pheto.

“He needed more game time since there were going to be four keepers competing for the position, so we later decided to let him go and he signed a year loan deal with BDF XI. So all that talk about the club releasing him for indiscipline is nothing but a lie,” he continued.

Pheto also said they expected the player to return to the club once the loan ends and they do not have any intentions of selling him as the club believes he still has a lot to offer in future.

A well placed source within the Rollers ranks  previously claimed the following to this publication.
“The main reason why he was released was because of his troubles off the field, if you look at what happened last season, one of the things that cost the team was injuries. He (Masule) was also out for quiet  sometime and how he got injured was a concern,” said the source.

The informer said the club then later found out exactly what happened, “He got injured after one of games last season. We found out that it was an  issue that happened outside the field of play and had nothing to do with the club or the game we had played. Remember what was written about him on the press, he had lost focus and it affected the team negatively,” the Gazette Sport claimed.
