The ongoing My Spar My Botswana netball league has gone on the third lap at a high note. The highly contested league has seen UB Crystal dominating the southern zone while Task and Orapa Wanderers are level in points at the top of the log.
The Northern zone has wrapped up their first leg which sees Task and Orapa being consistent at the top of the log but Task with an upper hand by a massive goal difference as compared to Orapa. Sowa Flamingoes has a mountain to climb in the second leg (that is if the second round is approved by the sponsors) as they have not secured any point from their last 5 fixtures.
They trail at the bottom of the log with just 0 points and a disappointing -112 goal difference. National development officer Kgomotso Mtokusa for BONA spoke exclusively with this publication that the league is of a good standard, “we are very happy with the current league, everything is of good standard given fact that there has been a gap year without a league,” she said.
The battlefield continues this coming weekend for south zone where the competition is still tight and the final log is till very much unpredictable. UB Crystals and BDF cats are the only teams which have maintained a 100% winning recored but Cats have an upper hand with a game in hand and have a narrow goal difference with the log leaders. Cats are level at points with their long time rivals Jungle Queens. Flying Hawgs, Prisons and Jwaneng  are trailing behind with 0 points from all their fixtures.
Gazette sport interviewed Prisons coach Regent Pitso who had few words to share regarding his team performance “the girls are very much talented, its only that we lack the mental strength and fails to convert chances. The plan is to go back to the drawing board and work more in our attaching force to strengthen the team, but in the nutshell the conditions of the league are just fine and we have more to offer in our last fixtures”
The PRO for south league Mmabatho Pilane told Gazette sport that the level of competition is very high, teams are consistently working to improve their performance. “Things looks uncertain now of which team will rule south but we have 2 weeks to await for that final whistle” said Pilane.
