GU contemplating re-signing Chikomo

Gaborone United might table an offer for Orapa United striker Ronald Chikomo in the January transfer window. The Zambian forward who spent close to ten years with GU, left the club at the end of the 2014/15 season after the Money Machine opted against renewing his contract.
Since leaving his former team, Chikomo has since rediscovered his old form, and further established himself as one of the best workaholic strikers in the BTC Premiership. Last season he also finished as joint top goal scorer in the Mascom Top 8 with five goals as he helped his club win the cup competition.
The departure of Benson Shilongo to Platinum Stars at the end of last season, has seen the Gaborone side struggle for goals in the current season. In their opening six league games, Rudolf Zapata’s side has only managed to score just six goals.
In an attempt to try and fix the team’s goal scoring problems, the Argentinian coach told reporters after Sunday’s 2-2 draw against BDF XI that their management has started preparing for the January transfer window.
“The management is working on that (getting new players), probably its going to be foreign players, I don’t really know, we have slots for two foreign players, but we will just have to wait and see,” said Zapata.
“Locally, yes there are so many talents that I would love to have, Chikomo, Thabang Sesinyi, and a few others. But at the moment, I know that it is impossible to have them, but we will see,” ended the former Mpumalanga Black Aces Coach.
As Zapata indicated, acquiring the services of the two mentioned players will be a tough ask, as Sesinyi only recently joined Jwaneng Galaxy in the last transfer window on a two year deal, though he has struggled for game time, while Chikomo’s contract is set to expire next year.
However this could see GU attempt to resign the player on a pre-contract in the next transfer window, and later join the team at the end of the season, but it would have to be a ‘special offer’ to lure him out of the mining town.
