Moiyabana riot case resumes

TSAONE SEGAETSHO

Twenty-Three Moiyabana residents accused of vandalizing Kgotla offices, three police vehicles and arson while protesting the disappearance of a 36-year-old man from the same village, will appear before Serowe Magistrate Court on Friday.
Some residents of Moiyabana rioted after the disappearance of Moiseraele Johanna earlier this year, destroying property, saying village leaders were concealing his whereabouts. The man, who is still missing, is alleged to have disappeared on 19th January after he went to the cattle post with his friends. The police were particularly criticized by rioting villagers who say they always drag feet when dealing with cases of missing people- cases they said were peculiarly common in the area.
Two police men and some government officials sustained injuries after an alleged mob attack; and while they are said to have since recovered, the search for Johanna is  still ongoing.  The 23 accused will be represented by Yandani Boko of Yandani Boko and Company.
The case will be before Magistrate Tshepo Magetse.
