Spinning your way to fitness

If you are looking for a new and fun way to lose weight, keep fit or maintain your body weight, then spinning is the best solution for you.  Spinning, also known as indoor cycling, is a great workout for the lower body; abdominal muscles and down to the legs, according to trainer Kabelo Mogapaesi.

Unlike outdoor cycling, spinning uses a stationary bike with various tension levels and has less resistance from such factors as wind. “With spinning you control your speed and resistance to your intensity level; it is more like going up and down the hill. Though ones are in control, it is important to always do the right thing and that which your instructor demonstrates in order to correctly exercise the targeted muscles during class,” Mogapaesi emphasized.
“Spinning is fun, but it is up to the individual to make it challenging so as to get the desired results; like most of our everyday plans, the results are determined by the work you had put in,” he advised.

According to Mogapaesi, also a weight lifter, spinning is good for weight lifters whose workout is focused on the upper body.  He explained that though he lifted weights for some time without any exercises on the lower body, it was after he researched   that he noticed that he was not doing   something right. “Usually weight lifters tend to neglect their lower body but it is important to have dimension hence imperative that the lower body gets as much workout as the upper,” he said.

Spinning tones muscles especially core muscles, buttocks and pedalling works the thighs and calves. It also burns calories, increases cardio endurance, relieves stress as well as keeps an individual away from the doctor’s door.  “Due to its low impact, it does not put pressure on the knees and joints hence recommended for people with joint problems such as arthritis,” Mogapaesi added.

Furthermore, the spinning trainer highlighted that because it is a high intensity workout, the exercise should be done at least twice or three times a week. “Regardless of ones’ fitness level, riding spinning bikes keeps people in the class together. While each may ride at their own level, the other person may feed on the others energy and get motivated to do more. Also the music gets all entertained, making them lost in their own world while the workout continues,” he concluded.
