Whis Fashion Show impresses

Veteran Fashion Designer Thato Mokgadi’s Spring/ Summer fashion show this past weekend was nothing less than amazing! For her SS 13 collection, the designer  for fashion label Whis went all out with an extravagant  event that featured  the  runway decked over half the swimming pool at Cresta Lodge.

As was expected by fans and critics,  Whis’ Summer/Spring collection for 2013 lived up to expectations. Thato Mokgadi welcomed the sunny season with playful polka dots on soft cotton fabrics, flowy chiffons, pale pinks and blues alongside punches of bright coloured skirts, bright coloured jump suits, playful peplum shorts and print patterns. Simple silhouettes with a detail of sophistication themed the cuts- from shift dresses, flowy maxi skirts, and fitted midi-dresses.

The second part of the fashion show featured more elegant  but still fashion-forward soft-pink and turquoise dresses for the modern and fashion conscious woman.
Talking to Time Out about why she always brings her A-game in executing fashion shows, Thato Mokgadi said that, “I love what I do  and as I’m trying to build a brand, I need to do as much as I can to put my work out there.”
She says that the inspiration of the collection was just simply the summer-spring season, which is why she opted for punchy colours, floaty fabrics and light layers. “You have to feel the cool spring breeze while looking hot. This is what this collection is all about,” she explained.

Spotted at the show were the city’s fashionable including Gabs’ designer Aobakwe Molosiwa, radio presenter Tshepo Ntshole, Boitshwarelo Lebang and model Juice Tsile, who has graced runways in South Africa and Tanzania.
