The end of the year marks a significant religious period in Botswana’s major faith, Christianity.
We will be celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, commonly known as Christmas. We are told that Jesus was born at a time when ignorance, superstition, greed, hatred and hypocrisy prevailed upon the land. Purity was forgotten and morality was neglected. His birth therefore gave a new and spiritual turn to the lives of man.
Therefore, this religious observance provides the opportunity for nation and renewal of our spiritual being as individual citizens and residents of Botswana.
Christmas reminds us that there is hope in the challenging times and that we continue to work together for the future of our country.
This holiday period will find many people on the road to visit family and attend Christmas celebrations. Unfortunately, this time of the year also sees many accidents on the roads, some few as they may be according to the Botswana Police records, as a result of drinking while driving or excessive consumption of alcohol.
Botswana Alcohol Industry Association (BAIA) thus urges you to be vigilant, to drive carefully and not to drink and drive.
Wherever you travel to celebrate Christmas or to spend time with friends and family, do not abuse alcohol.
It is appropriate to drink.  Please drink responsibly and know when to say KE SHAPO!
