BDP launches multi care insurance scheme

FRANCISTOWN:   With the 2014 general elections approaching in about 10 months, the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) has launched a multi care funeral insurance scheme to assist its needy members in the event of death.

The scheme provides a lump sum death benefits payable to policy holders and covers all persons in the event of natural death. Driven by Sureway insurance broker,  beneficiaries contribute P50  monthly premium   payable to Botswana Life Insurance of which P30 goes to Botswana Life while P20 is payable to the party’s multi care fund  to help in its activities.
Launching the scheme the party Treasure Satar Dada clarified that the scheme was conceptualized after realization that a great number of BDP members still struggle to bury their loved ones. Dada stated that whilst the scheme provides a financial solution it is also a massive addition to the range of attractions that makes the BDP a unique organization. “While it is a common believe in politics that parties do not really care about their members beyond the vote, at the BDP we continue to be different and lead by example,” he said.

According to Dada the scheme which is targeting 800 000 members countrywide is one of its kind as it allows the elderly people up to the age of 80 years to join as policy holders. He added that contrary to other policies which sideline the elderly notwithstanding their contribution to the development of Botswana, the multi care scheme is not discriminatory as it is inclusive. “Aging is a graceful thing and should never be used as a basis for denying people essential policies.  To us this is our gift to the elders and I would like to see many of them covered; they are at liberty to take it up and share it with friends as well as age mates,” he said.

In addition the party Deputy Treasurer Thapelo Olopeng urged all branches to at least register a minimum of 2000 policy holders to ensure that their agreement with Botswana Life insurance succeeds.
