Mochudi Centre Chiefs could face the wrath of the Botswana Premier League’s Disciplinary Committee following a kit mishap which saw their BTC Premiership clash against Extension Gunners delayed for 30 minutes. Chiefs alerted match officials before the game that they were running late in terms of having the kit ready for the Lobatse Sports Complex clash, as a result the kick-off was delayed for 30 minutes.
The BPL has since filed a report on the matter and forwarded it to the Disciplinary Committee for further action. According to BPL Chief Executive Officer Thabo ‘Styles’ Ntshinogang and the BPL, “As per BPL Compliance Manual, the kit should be presented at the pre-match meeting which shall take place two hours before kick-off.”
It appears Chiefs did not have the kit ready well in time for kick-off as play was postponed while waiting for the kit to arrive at the venue. Reports indicate that the club had different travel arrangements for the players and the kit, the delay was reportedly caused by the final printing of jersey numbers on the kits.
Chiefs, who are currently in the midst of factional wars and financial turmoil, are bracing for disciplinary action which could come in the form of a fine. The teams eventually entered the pitch after the delay, the game proved to be worth the wait as they produced an entertaining six goal thriller. The game ended 3-3 with Kenanao Kgetholetsile grabbing a hat-trick.
