Berry Heart to perfom at Story Moja Festival in Kenya

Sultry poet, Berry Heart, has been listed to perform at this year’s Storymoja Festival in Kenya. The Storymoja Festival is a 5-day celebration of stories, ideas, writing and contemporary culture through storytelling, books, live discussion forums, workshops, debates, live performances, competitions and music.
The festival celebrates African arts, culture and literature, and takes place annually in Nairobi, where it attracts many renowned local and international writers and thinkers. It was formed in 2008 by a collective of writers who are committed to publishing contemporary East African writing of world-class standard.
We caught up with Berry Heart who was on holiday in Maun, and she told us that she intends to tell Botswana stories in poetry and dance at the festival.  Her showpiece will be a theatrical story telling experience that fuses instrumentals, theatre drama, dancing and poetry to depict the tales.
“Growing up in Kgalagadi my grandmother used to tell us folk tales. Now I will be telling those same stories in a contemporary way,” she said.
Berry Heart says she will be telling her stories in her native tongue, Sekgalagadi, and occasionally mixing with English to avoid leaving out the international audience.
Heart will be travelling with an entourage that includes a band, dancers and a manager as she is now a fully fledged artist and performer.
