The 6th annual Botswana Music Union (BOMU) awards are coming up this Saturday the 13th December at the Gaborone International Convention centre (GICC). According to the organisers this year’s award ceremony promises to go down in history books as the biggest highlight of  2014 because the awards have seen a tremendous growth in the past 5 years.

“When something starts up it’s not always perfect and we are now in our 6th year of hosting the awards; so there is an improvement from the past shows. This year we have gone all out because we have managed to secure more sponsors that are also helping to improve the event. Last year we promised glitz and glamour and this year it is more than that. As BOMU we have always experienced challenges of funding and we still urge the private sector to come on board, take our artists into consideration and help grow our music industry collectively. We also have visitors from a radio station from Lesotho who are benchmarking from us so we need to show them how it is done,” said secretary general of BOMU Pagson Ntsie.

Ntsie also revealed a star studded performance lineup for the night. Revelers can look forward to perfomers such as Vee Mampeezy, Charma gal, K-Bos, Euri, Kast, Spiza, Nono Siile, Riharko (Polka dance group), Tumza, Kabelo Eric, Lizibo, Makwakwa, Maghebula and Bra Sam (Afro pop).

“Most of the performers are nominees for the night and we have tried to have a mix of different genres to cater for everyone,” Ntsie added.
The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture is the main sponsor,  sponsoring this years awards to the tune of P500 000, while Botswana Broadcasting Services  sponsored with the amount of P400 000 bringing the total cash sponsorship to P900 000. Broadcasting Services has also partnered with BOMU to broadcast the awards live for  5 years and Grand Palm has been housing the awards in the past years.  Webtickets has discounted its commission from 5% to 3%, printing 150 more tickets for the show as well as Dee Zone Productions which will be giving local artists exposure in their Pula Power Television show that airs every Saturday on Btv.

“We are proud to be associated with the ever improving BOMU awards, We have always believed in the project and we will continue to support BOMU as it continues to recognise that our local artists work hard for and their careers to blossom. We believe in nurturing partnerships and we continue to urge the private sector to assist BOMU. To the artists let’s not disappoint those who invest in us and strive to produce high quality material and show that we are worth the investment,“ said Bale of Ministry of Youth Sports and Culture during the sponsorship unveiling event.
The awards start at 7pm and normal tickets are P200, VIP P350.
