The Gantsi area is one synonymous with cattle farming so it was only natural that they host the Gantsi Meat festival. The event which is now on its second year is billed for the 12th of July and is expected to attract farmers from all over the country. “This year’s meat festival will be held at a place called The Gat which is about 5km away from Gantsi,” confirmed Nkamo Radipati who is in the organising team.

She revealed that there will a wide selection of meats and not just beef. “People can expect Kudu meat, goat meat, beef, donkey meat, Wildebeest, warthog, sheep, springbok, Eland and gemsbok meat and our P150 ticket means you can sample all this except for papa which you have to buy.”

Though artists have not been confirmed yet, Radipati says they have with invited Dj’s from Gaborone, Maun, Gantsi, and traditional troupes from Gantsi, polka dance music, local rumba groups as well as a Herero band. “Although this is a meat festival, we want people to be entertained throughout the day. In the morning, there will be competitions to see who is better at slaughtering or skinning animals with cash prizes to be won. In the afternoon, cultural music will be the main form of entertainment,” she revealed.

The festival will start in the morning and it will be happening alongside the Gantsi Agriculture show which will be from the 9th until the 13th.
