Local designers Mothusi Lesolle and Lesedi Matlapeng recently went to showcase their designs at Kenya’s biggest fashion event, Festival for African fashion and Arts (FAFA), where their designs were well received. “I am happy to say we were well received and the support was massive. I showcased my collection and before I left Kenya my pictures were already trending on social media,” Lesolle of iZaura designs, further stating that “The biggest lesson I learnt from other designers is that we both have very strong cultures that have and still inspire the world

Lesolle says the show opened her eyes to the importance of celebrating traditional and local prints, “they love and respect their traditional prints. I realized that there is a huge interest in Botswana of what is called the “African Print” but we also need to put our leteisi up there. We seem to always want to look outside when we have it right here at home. We also have a duty as fashion designers in Botswana to see how we use our creativity to give a wow factor to the leteisi,” he said.

Matlapeng who shared Lesolle’s  sentiments that Botswana was on the same level as east Africa was impressed by the turn out, “ it was huge, inspiring designs, the set up was great  they used professional models on the ramp .Everything was just top notch,” she said.

The fashion show’s theme was Fashion for Peace and in line with the theme, Lesolle designed a collection of diverse pieces  which he said  his message was to say the only way we could attain world peace is to understand that no matter how different we are, in the end we are all the same and we need to embrace each other’s differences.  On the other hand, Matlapeng designed Victoria style inspired collection with big sleeves and gathered waists.
