South African house music star Shota was in town over the weekend. Shota has recently signed house music DJ Anthem to his recording label Shota Music and is looking to sign more Batswana artists into the label, in his words to empower the youth where he is appreciated by his fans.

The Ben 10 hit-maker who performed in Phikwe over the weekend says he plans to help him dominate before exploring the South African market. “At the moment we are looking to create demand for Anthem. His album will be released late this year or early 2015. We will be promoting him here so by the time he gets to SA he already has built a strong base here at home,” said Shota, adding that his vision is to grow Botswana’s own as he has also done in countries he frequents like Namibia, Swaziland and Angola. DJ Anthem has already released a single under the label, the track titled ‘I’m in Love’ features Shota and will debut on Flava Dome this week as well as SABC music show Live Amp.

Shota says he is excited about working with Batswana youth not only in music, but in other forms of arts like dancing and television production. “I’d like to link with the Department of Youth, arts and culture in Botswana and propose to them a way to assist in empowering young people. The reason I am so keen to involve myself at this level is to thank and acknowledge Batswana for the love they have shown me.  I wouldn’t be the Shota I am right now. Batswana do not even understand my language but love my music. To me that’s an honour and I appreciate that,” Shota shared.

Shota has worked with the likes of the late Lebo Mathosa and DJ Christos. He started his own record label Shota Music in 2007and has tried his hand at different genres. He has produced for L’vovo, Theo Kgosinkwe, Kelly Khumalo, Professor, Big Nuz and collaborated with Dj Euphonik and Culoe de Song.
