Galenamotlhale in Butler’s thoughts

Botswana senior national football team coach Peter Butler has revealed his plans to hand Lesego Galenamotlhale a Zebras call up. Many within the football fraternity had bemoaned the Mochudi Centre Chiefs midfielder’s lack of action at national level due to his impressive club form.

Many had suggested that Galenamotlhale was not in the national coach’s plans after a stellar season failed to yield a single call up. The midfielder has been Chiefs’ outstanding player this season, having helped them win the league and earn a place among the beMobile Premier League Player of the Season nominees.

Butler has denied ignoring the player as some had suggested, he told Gazette Sport that he has been following the player’s progress this season. He had planned to include him in the current national team camp but the rescheduled midweek game between Chiefs and Gaborone United prevented him from doing so.

“Lesego is a victim of circumstances, I was going to bring him in with a few other fringe players who have caught my eye, I have monitored him this season but due to the BFA / BPL rescheduling the Chiefs versus GU game i could not bring him in. However, due to the confusion I cannot select him for this three day camp as his club rightly has first call on him, and we also have to break camp on Wednesday for the last game of the season on Saturday,” Butler explained.

The former West Ham United player concluded by confirming his intention to include Galenamotlhale in the national team soon. “He will be called again, but we have some very talented individuals in the U23s and competition is fierce now we have many midfielders players vying for these positions,” he concluded.
