LEAKED SAVINGRAM – KHAMA MUZZLES PUBLIC EMPLOYEES

The Office of the President, through the Permanent Secretary to the President and Secretary to the Cabinet, Carter Morupisi has moved to muzzle the public sector.

The Botswana Gazette has intercepted a savingram stating that any government employee will not be allowed to share government information with third parties and the media.
This follows the recent arrest of a Botswana Gazette reporter who is accused of receiving leaked information from the Office of the President.

The savingram compels public employees not to share government information with external parties, a measure that is in direct violation of the Freedom of Expression clause in Botswana’s constitution.

The Botswana Government wants employees to urgently sign the confidentiality clause, citing non disclosure, by the end of April.
