Magosi opt against signing Kaunda

Mochudi Centre Chiefs’ management opted against signing former beMobile Premier League Green Boot winner Patrick Kaunda due to strict foreign quota restrictions. Following the failed move to Magosi, Kaunda is on the verge of joining BDF XI on a one year loan deal.

Kaunda was widely tipped to join Chiefs after featuring in their Barclays Kabelano Charity Cup squad recently, Magosi had also agreed a  season long loan deal with his parent club, Platinum Stars. Kaunda was allowed to temporarily exit the Stars ranks after being frustrated by limited first team opportunities, he was deployed as a winger on numerous occasions, a position he did not prefer.

The beMobile Premier League champions had to make a decision to sign either Kaunda or Mkhanyisele Siwahla, who impressed many within the club’s technical team. Chiefs’ Public Relations Officer Clifford Mogomotsi told this publication that opting against signing Kaunda was a difficult decision to make.

“We are allowed to add only three foreign players to our squad. We had an agreement with Stars but the circumstances I mentioned prevented us from signing him. He did well during his time here, he could have offered us something different in our attacking department. We hope BDF XI will give him the opportunities he deserves. We had one more slot left for a foreign player and we signed Siwahla,” the Chiefs PRO stated.

Kaunda’s imminent arrival at BDF XI will strengthen the club’s attacking department after losing the services of experienced striker Master Masitara.
