Renowned South African gospel artist, Winnie Mashaba is ready to set the Boipuso Hall stage ablaze on the 9th of November and thrill her Botswana fans with her high energy performance. Mashaba will be performing for charity as the show’s proceeds will go  towards the construction of a local church.

In an exclusive interview with Time Out, the celebrated and admired songstress said, “We will be thanking our fans for their marvelous support throughout our musical journey, and this time we are  ploughing back to the community of Botswana by contributing to the construction of Lamb Apostle Church Ministries.”

This is not  Mashaba’s first performance in Botswana since she rose to prominence with her soul stirring hits 12 years ago. “I have a huge fan base in Botswana and they have been great towards me and my music. Botswana is the only country that gave birth to my musical career from the beginning when I recorded my first album Exodus 20 which was released in 2000.  With their support, I was immediately put in the league of great singers selling over 25 000 copies.”

Mashaba revealed that she will also perform some of the new songs from her latest offering dubbed Bophelo ke leeto. According to her, the 12 track album is more than a collection of songs; it is
loaded with inspiration and words of encouragement.

“I will be performing songs from my 12th album which is currently doing very well in the market and well received in other African Countries including Botswana. I feel blessed to have reached this milestone. This is my testimony that God is indeed doing me well. Songs that are close to my heart include Onthatile, Gosiame, Kea Rapela, Sefefo sa Moea, Bophelo ke leeto and many more. This is an inspirational album, it’s not too serious. It caters for all ages and accommodates everyone; Christian or not. Everyone will find a song for themselves, and whether you understand Sepedi or Sesotho or not it will get you dancing.”

A line-up of local acts who will grace the Gospel concert include, Phempheretlhe, Matheke Leteane, Obakeng Sengwaketse, Kojonto,  City Boys and a line-up of local church choirs to be revealed soon. Quizzed on who she would like to collaborate with locally Mashaba said, “I am a big fan of Batswana’s traditional music and gospel therefore I am willing to share the stage and learn the technical aspect and interpretation from any musician because music is a journey in which you learn from every day.”

Mashaba is a decorated gospel star with accolades and nominations that include a 2005 Kora Africa Music Award, SA Music Awards and Metro FM Music Awards. She has also won the One Gospel Best Song of the Year award for Hakena Nako in 2008 and the 2010 Best Female Artist at the Crown Gospel Awards.
