Art exhibition to promote women in arts industry
Organizer of Sisters in Art Thabo Letsebe has announced that the upcoming 3 day exhibition will promote local women in the creative arts industry. The first installment of the exhibition is billed for this coming Friday 17th until Sunday at Flava restaurant located in the Stanbic Bank Piazza (Molapo Crossing).
Under the tutelage of Flowertry Media House, each session will be coordinated by 2 women per month to give exposure to both prominent and upcoming ladies in the arts industry. Selection of the 2 women to be featured at the exhibitions will be according to the themes which are visual arts, photography and beauty.
House of Kay’s Kaone Moremong, Rose Saboro and Batani July will be among some of the women who will take part in the art exhibition. “We will use the exhibition to showcase our boutique store and this will be an opportunity for local females in the arts sector to show their talent to the public. We want to change the mindset that the arts industry is hobby oriented”, fashion designer Moremong revealed.
For her part, Flowetry Media House representative Tshepi Sebonego revealed that the art exhibition aims to develop what women in the Botswana creative arts industry can offer. “Through our other initiatives such as Chillstep Sundays and the Pop Up market show, we have realized an increase in arts and craft exhibits from the ladies. This prompted us to find an avenue where the focus will be on Batswana women in the industry,” said Sebonego.
The event at Flava will be open to all members of the public at no charge. Exhibitions will run from 1900hrs to 2300hrs, with food and entertainment from various local artists.
