Motswako/rap artist, Thuto “Dramaboi” Ramphaleng, recently revealed that his music was licensed to be used as background music for popular South African soapie, Rhythm City starting from next month.
According to his business manager Itumeleng Garebatshabe the development is a way for them to penetrate the South African market as well as to take the artist’s brand to the world.
“Our approach was to use television, its more lucrative and people love it. Once they hear Dramaboi’s music while watching their favourite soapie, they are bound to search for it and buy his music,” he said.
Even though he did not reveal confirmed songs that will be used on the soapie, he said Roma Nna will be one of the backtracks. Garebatshabe said that Etv, the station which airs the soapie decided to use Dramaboi’s music because they were impressed with its quality and his professionalism. “Each episode of every month is themed and Dramaboi’s music will be played over a period of two weeks as the background music,” he explained.
In another milestone, Garebatshabe says Dramaboi’s music is now available on Vodacom and Billboard Music Stores. The artist is also rumored to be finalizing another deal with MTN which will see his music available and sold throughout the African continent.
The Candy hitmaker will also embark on a world tour. Garebatshabe says they have heeded the requests of his international fans and are currently in talks with event organizers in other countries to confirm Dramaboi’s performance. The Motswako artist also requested his fans on social media to vote for him to perform at the Coast 2 Coast Live concert, London, UK edition on 8th July 2017.
Dramaboi’s Unplugged show sparked a lot of interest and led to a USA producer, Chrisprythm sending Dramaboi instrumentals and he is currently writing lyrics for them. He will release a 4th track EP with the producer by end of 2017 or early 2018.
