“The event exceeded our expectations”-organisers

Foodies were treated to a smorgasbord of culinary delight this past weekend as Fairgrounds Holdings celebrated the tradition of breaking bread with their International Food Festival. The event which attracted foodies from all walks of life spiced up the foodie scene, promoting the diversity and creativity of culinary offerings drawn from Botswana and other nationalities across the world.

“This was our first event and it exceeded our expectations. We started conceptualising this event last year October because we had not seen an international food festival in Botswana. We are still engaging with all stakeholders to see how we can improve next year’s show so people keep coming back,” said organiser of the event, Thabo Mogomotsi from Fairgrounds Holdings.

Food on the day included delights from Japan, India, China among others. Thanks to the cooking demonstrations by Botswana Chefs Association, patrons’ pallets were transported around the world as foodies picked up new recipes, tips and tricks straight from the masters. Along with showcasing their signature dishes, chefs discussed the latest cooking trends.

Kgalagadi Breweries Limited (KBL), was one of the exhibitors at the food festival conducting a food and beer pairing of their premium beers including Budweiser, St Louis Export, Corona and Stella Artois among others. “Pairing food and beer is in line with what we call smart drinking, which is why we participated in this event. Our objective is to encourage people to drink responsibly. It was even more fulfilling to partner with local chefs who used one of our premium beer, Stella Artois as a marinade for most of their food demonstrations,” said Masegonyana Madisa from KBL.
