Mosienyane urges corporate world to support local music

The corporate community has been implored to support the local music industry.
Speaking at the Moeding Alumni artists and stakeholders’ concert which was held at the National Museum last week, Business Botswana president Leta Mosienyane said music could not play the role it is playing to make the world a better place if musicians are not supported.
“Music as we see it today has transformed and we need to consume it so entertainers can continue to make living out of it… It takes a lot more energy to belt out these stellar performances…I urge the business community to go behind our musicians because no artist has ever succeeded without the support of the people,” he said.
According to Mosienyane, music has the potential to contribute to the country’s economic and infrastructural development. “We still don’t have celebratory spaces in the city and we won’t have them until we support our own. Art civilizes people, so join me to support and sponsor them,” he said.
Mosienyane made these remarks when introducing the Moeding Alumni Artists choral group which performed at the event exploring different music genres such as opera, traditional, township jazz and folk choral.

The group was formed in 2011 mainly from former Moeding College choristers and is renowned for dominating the Botswana Teachers Union National Music Eisteddfod for close to two decades.

“The main objective of MAA is to identify and harness musical talent among the youth with the aim of inculcating good morals and uprightness in them. We also aim at providing our musicians with career opportunities in the music industry,” said the choir conductor, Dumi Mmualefe.
