Publicist for the annual junior and senior school drama and traditional dance competitions, Gibson Kaleng of Pinehust Professional Entertainment says they would like to resuscitate this event after it went on a hiatus in 2008 and 2011 due to financial constraints.
Kaleng said the event, which should now be in its fifth year needs to be encouraged because as well as feeding the country’s theatre industry, it keeps children busy, develops their talents and could “butter their bread in the future.
“This year the show is scheduled to take place on the 23rd of September and we are appealing to different sectors and individuals to sponsor this year’s event. It is for the greater good of the society,” he said.
This year, the competition will be under the theme, Putting a Stop to drugs and alcohol abuse and is expected to receive all the 237 schools of the country. “In the past the event was in a smaller scale and this year we want all the schools to participate. Each year we introduce themes of national interest and this event is something that students look forward to,” Kaleng said.
The competition will be held in Gaborone at a venue yet to be communicated. An attendance fee which will go towards the prizes of winners will also be revealed. The event is currently sponsored by Pro Tyres, Mesami Molepolole, Neha Hardware, Square Pharmacy and Hawkers Cash and Carry.
