- Jakarumba blesses the show with new music
- Wizards of the Desert honour Tabona Kabila Seretse

Trompies took the stage this past Friday at Botswana Craft with their trademark pantsula swag to prove yet again that they are still legends in the Kwaito game. Performing classics such as Malabulabu, Sweety Lavo and Bengim’ngaka one could tell definitely tell that they may not be as libre as they once were but that did not stop Zynne “Mahoota” Sibika, Mandla “Spikiri” Mofokeng, Eugene “Donald Duck” Mthethwa, and Jairus “Jakarumba” Nkwe from showing long time fans an amazing time.
“We have never played such a long show, but we do it for the love of Batswana and we are grateful for the support we always receive from the people,” they said.
The mature crowd was not to be out-shined either and they graced the Oldies series Waar Was Jy in full Kwaito regalia, a lifestyle personified by the iconic group in the 90’s. After the opening number, Jakarumba broke rank and insisted on blessing the show with a gospel hymn (Morena ore thuse) and prayer before they continued with their performance.
“All I see is peace, love and happiness but I would first like to call on the grace of God to cover all of us so we may end wars and troubled souls,” he said before breaking into song. One of the highlights of the night’s concert was Jakarumba sampling his solo project to an appreciative loyal Botswana fan base. “The songs says ‘bangi fika, ba ncomba le, ba ncomba daa’. You don’t know it, but if I see that you are enjoying it. It’s a yes for me too and I will be taking it to radio stations,” he exclaimed.
Curtain raisers Wizards of the Desert also pulled of a fun set despite the loss of one long time dancer Tabona Kabila Seretse who was buried this past weekend. After performing a number of their hits including Koko and Mokento, they raised up Kabila’s portrait to honour his contribution to their music long career and celebrated his mark on the country’s entertainment industry.
“We must commend Wizards for coming through at such a difficult time and pulling off a good show. We also applaud Boogie Sid and we hope fans were satisfied with the Trompies magic! They have promised to come back and play a longer set in the near future,” said the organiser of the sold out show, Lecco.
He added that Waar Was Jy Oldies Series will focus primarily on legends in the game especially those who made up the soundtrack to the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. The shows will be on Fridays featuring a local act and DJ. The next show according to the organisers is slated for August 2018.
