BOTHO UNIVERSITY STUDENTS TO ATTEND WORLD TOURISM FORUM 2019
Botho University has announced that two of their final year students have been selected as part of the 12 finalists for the Young Talent Programme 2019, for the World Tourism Forum to be held in Lucerne Switzerland.
The Faculty of Hospitality and Sustainable Tourism student, Kesego Obona Masedi and Senatla Courageous Gabobofane are set to leave for Switzerland to attend the 3-day forum from the 1st – 3rd of May 2019, where they will take part in activities such making a poster presentation of their research results, partaking in Career Development workshops with Korn Ferry Recruitment Company, as well as attend various workshops. The two underwent a rigorous application process to be selected by the academic committee of the World Tourism Forum Lucerne, which included submitting abstracts of their final year research papers before selection for an early round of judging. Thereafter, they took a Learning Agility assessment and placed in the final selection along with 10 other finalists from various universities all over the world, with only 3 students from Africa.
Botho is a partner university of the World Tourism Forum and it is the first time Botswana students have went this far in the competition, which is a young talent programme aimed to help foster the exchange of expertise between generations within the industry and connect CEOs and talented young people, whilst also emphasising the importance of a talent pipeline between universities and the industry.
According to one of the finalist, Ms Masedi, this is a great opportunity for the Botswana tourism industry to be able to benchmark and look for unique investment strategies. She said they will come from the conference with deep and relevant knowledge which they will use to inspire others and assist in diversification of the economy. They will meet internationally renowned CEOs and world-famous opinion leaders within the travel, tourism & hospitality industry to build up a unique network for their personal career path.
