BOKA set to launch UFAK sponsorships

The Botswana Karate Association is set to reveal an array of sponsors who will assist with resources to successfully host the 2019 Union Federation of Africa Karate (UFAK) Championship. The tournament will be staged from 12-14 July featuring some of the best karate stars from around the continent, the venue for the prestigious three day tournament will be the UB Indoor Sports Centre.

May 7 is the date set for the sponsors to be revealed, although BOKA officials are reluctant to reveal the names of the sponsors they have informed this publication that up to five sponsors will be presented. Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Tshekedi Khama will, once again, be present at the event.

Khama previously unveiled the UFAK Championship Local Organizing Committee and the official logo, merchandise and medal designs in March. As the host nation, Botswana will be expected to be amongst the highest placed teams in the medal table.

In 2017, Team Botswana scooped 7 medals at the UFAK tournament in Cameroon whereby they obtained 4 gold medals, 2 silver medals and a single bronze medal, their performance exceeded the team’s expectations as they had targeted only 4 medals prior to the tournament. Last year, Team Botswana grabbed 5 total medals (2 silver medals and 3 bronze medals) at the UFAK Championships held in Rwanda.
