Local ladies 400m sensation Christine Botlogetswe persisted with this season splendid performance when she bettered her season best (SB) to 51.17 during the memorial Leon Buyle meeting in Oordegem, Belgium. She finished first in heat three of three.

Prior to the race the Rakops born lass had clocked 51.29 to qualify for the IAAF World Championships and Tokyo 2020 Olympics during the IAAF Diamond League held in Shanghai, China late last month. Before the Diamond league meet, the 23 year old had recorded 52.17 during the Gaborone International Meet held in Gaborone late April, this is before she recorded 52.23 on her 400m seasons opener at the South African Grand Prix.

“She is dishing brilliant performances and it is going where we want it to go. She is gradually peaking and we also want her to run a few 200m races so that she can improve on her speed,” said Botlogetswe’s coach Justice Dipeba.

Quizzed if he is not concerned that Botlogetswe might reach her peak early and ultimately fail to do well at the upcoming international competitions like the World Championships billed for Doha, Qatar from September 28 to October 6, Dibepa had this to say: “ we will do our best to ensure that she does not reach her peak, we know that might happen but we will try our best to ensure that does not happen.”

This is the athlete who has had a fairy tale run last season shattering her 400m personal best (PB) in almost every race that she took part in ultimately finishing the season with a personal best of 50.89 which was a great improvement of 51.82 that she commenced the 2018 season with.
