Mochudi Centre Chiefs captain Pontsho Moloi says they have not given up on reclaiming the beMobile Premiership title, despite failing to get maximum points against leaders Township Rollers.
The two sides played to a 1-1 draw on Saturday night at the National Stadium, leaving Magosi four points behind their traditional rivals Rollers. Despite the result, the chiefs skipper told Gazette Sport after the game that they will push Rollers to the very end.
“We could have won it, but it’s a game of two teams that had a go at each other. In a nutshell, we needed it more than they needed it. We can still reclaim the league of course, three or four more games to go, four points difference, we will push it till the end,” briefly said Moloi.
To the game itself, though the two teams went into the break with no goals, it was a former Rollers striker and a former Chiefs winger who separated the sides on the night.
Onalethata Tshekiso broke the deadlock on the hour-mark after receiving a pass from Moloi just on the edge of Kabelo Dambe’s box, and curled his left footed shot into the far corner of the net to make it 1-0 to Chiefs.
Zebras skipper Joel Mogorosi nearly brought the game back to level terms shortly after the Chiefs goal, when Chiefs keeper Raphael Nthwane misjudged a long ball, but Mogorosi’s chip went for  the side netting.
Popa however did get their equalizer on the 80th minute after a foul on Segolame Boy, a few yards outside the Chiefs box.
Galabgwe Moyana stood forward and beautifully striked the ball  home, to restore parity.
Both sides tried to push for a late winner but it was too little too late. In the end, the match ended on a 1-1 stalemate and the two teams shared the spoils on the night.
The result took Rollers to 61 points while the defending champions jumped into second on 57 points , with Orapa United playing to a 2-2 against Sankoyo Bush Bucks on Friday night.
