Kopi to get the job on a permanent basis?

Interim Botswana football under 23 coach Davies Mlungisi Kopi is the favourite to be appointed the head coach of the team by the Botswana Football Association.  Kopi has assumed the leading position of the technical team following the dismissal of Keitumetse ‘Pio’ Paul last week.

He ascended to the position by virtue of being Paul’s assistant coach prior to the latter’s departure. This publication is reliably informed that the interim coach is the overwhelming favourite to be handed the role on a permanent basis.

The association is wary of breaking a ‘continuation phase’ by employing an individual who would bring his own ideas and disrupt  the current methods adopted by the side. Kopi made a positive start to his temporary reign with a 1-1 draw against Zambia in the CAF under 23 Championship Qualifiers.

Kopi’s side will have to avoid defeat and hope for a win or a high scoring draw to advance to the third round where they will meet Ivory Coast. BFA leadership has complete trust in Kopi’s abilities ad they could hand him the job on a permanent basis if he continues to impress.

Despite Kopi’s status at the favourite, the availability of the likes of Letang Kgengwenyane, Daniel Nare and Kenneth Mogae could mean that Kopi would have stiff competition if the BFA decides to consider other options.
