Modisaotsile considers retirement

Gaborone United (GU) skipper and the Zebras midfielder Alphonso Modisaotsile is considering hanging up his boots at the end of this season, this publication can reveal.

The 34 year old joined GU from TAFIC in 2009 and is currently the club’s longest serving player. His hard work and style of play has saw him earning respect from those in the football circles being regarded as one of the best anchor-men in local football something which gotten him several calls with the national team.

He has also been vital in the GU set up in the recent years having played starring roles in GU’s cup victories. He was instrumental when ‘The Money Machine’ as GU is better known won the Coca Cola FA Cup in 2012 beating Mochudi Centre Chiefs 4-2 in penalty shoot-out after both sides failed to score in 120 minutes. His versatility to play as a midfielder or defender proved essential when GU claimed the Mascom Top 8 in 2013 and 2015 as well as playing in this year’s high stakes tournament final.

The Francistown born player has also helped GU to be a relevant brand in the BTC premiership and maintain the top 8 spot in the league.

Having chased the pig skin for more than a decade now, Modisaotsile revealed his intentions to retire to Gazette Sports following his side lost 2-0 at the hands of Jwaneng Galaxy in the Mascom Top 8 Final which was held in Francistown Sports Complex this past weekend.

“This might be my last season as a football player, my legs are tired and I also have a lot of things to pursue out of football. It’s something that I have been considering for a while,” said Gattuso as Modisaotsile is otherwise to football fanatics. “My decision will however be based on fitness and speed as the season progress, my legs would really determine my decision.”
