Former Botswana Football Association president Tebogo Sebego has returned to football as the new Notwane Football Club president. Sebego will spearhead the club’s aims to return to the BTC Premiership among other targets.
The club’s general membership heeded to the recommendation of their executive committee to have Sebego at the helm, the supporters gave the move the green light during their Annual General Meeting this past week. Speaking to Gazette Sport on Sunday, Sebego confirmed the news as he stated that he is yet to be officially unveiled.
“The club approached me to assist them going forward, we agreed and thought the next step would be to inform the general membership in order for them to give their thoughts on the move, we wanted to do it the right way. Its always important for the general membership to give you the thumbs up. The proposal was communicated at the club’s AGM and it was agreed,” Sebego told this publication.
Notwane’s new president stated that there is a possibility of a press conference this week to officially unveil him to the public and the media. Sebego’s task will be to return Notwane to their former glory days in the long run, the club was relegated from the top tier of local football during the 2014/2015 season and they have been struggling to gain an automatic route to the BTC Premiership.
The former BFA leader once played against Notwane in the 1997 Coca Cola Cup final, he was a member of the Mokgosi Young Fighters team that made a fairytale run to the final of the biggest cup competition in the country at the time. Young Fighters lost 2-0 on the day, Sebego also saw his goal bound effort ruled out, to this day he still maintains that “it was wrongfully ruled out.”
