The arrival of new head coach Eric Tinkler could give Kabelo Seakanyeng a new lease of life at Chippa United. Tinkler was appointed last week to replace Dan Malesela who had started the season poorly with only one point from three league games. Such an early slump has seen Chippa occupy the second bottom spot on the log, they are ahead of bottom side Maritzburg United only on goal difference.
The previous coach had not yet given Seakanyeng enough of a chance to show what he has to offer.
The speedy winger had to wait on the sidelines for the first three games of the season under Malesela but it appears Tinkler might come to the rescue and provide the former Gaborone United player a chance to cement a first team spot.
Seakanyeng told Gazette Sport that the squad is excited by the arrival of Tinkler and they have already seen a lot of changes to their training methods and the style of play. He hinted that they will move from a possession based style to a more full throttle attack minded style under Tinkler.
“From what we have already seen Tinkler is going to be a great coach for us. He has already outlined how he wants us to play. We were previously expected to play the tiki-taka system but the new coach wants us to be more direct, to be a lot faster. He has emphasized the importance of playing with pace and that really suits my game,”
This past weekend cup games were played and Seakanyeng and his teammates had an opportunity to impress the new coaching staff as they held observation matches in training, Tinkler was not present as he went to scout their next opponents (Supersport United) but he left his coaching staff in charge of the training sessions.
Seakanyeng revealed that assistant coach Vincent Kobola was impressed by his performance in the observation match. “After the practice game he came over and told me that I did well and stated that the way I was playing is exactly what Tinkler wants. So I will continue to keep on working hard to contribute to the team,” Seakanyeng concluded.
