Love gets louder, messier, and more complicated as Isithembu sika Msongelwa returns for season 2 where culture, conflict, and desire collide in a battle no one is ready to lose
GAZETTE REPORTER
Produced by Pula Bakgaga Media and Kusa Films, the hit drama series Isithembu sika Msongelwa returns for a gripping second season, bringing new episodes to screens every Monday from 6 April 2026 at 20:00 on Mzansi Magic.
A MAN, THREE WIVES, ONE IMPOSSIBLE EXIT
Led by acclaimed actor Andile Mxakaza, Season 2 deepens the emotional and cultural complexities of polygamy through the story of Msongelwa, a taxi owner determined to undo his polygamous marriage in pursuit of a monogamous life with his high school sweetheart, Asanda. However, his plan quickly unravels when his three wives refuse to let him walk away.
THE WOMEN TAKE CENTER STAGE
The formidable trio of wives is portrayed by Nompumelelo Vilakazi (Senzeni), Phumzile Mlangeni (Mam’Zobe) and Thandeka Shangase (Phathekile), while Nosipho Pehlo steps into the role of Asanda, the woman who disrupts Msongelwa’s already fragile household.
TRADITION VS DESIRE
Picking up from a dramatic Season 1 cliffhanger, the new season explores the consequences of Msongelwa’s choices as he attempts to introduce Asanda into a deeply rooted and resistant family structure. What unfolds is a layered narrative of love, conflict, identity and cultural expectation.
Mxakaza describes the role as both challenging and deeply personal, highlighting how the series portrays polygamy not just as a lifestyle, but as a complex emotional and spiritual journey.
HIGH STAKES, RAW TRUTHS
Season 2 places a strong spotlight on the women at the heart of the story, each bringing strength, individuality and influence into the marriage. Mam’Zobe stands as the unwavering matriarch and pillar of the family; Senzeni embodies emotional depth and resilience, while Phathekile’s gentle yet firm presence adds balance. Together, their voices grow louder as they challenge Msongelwa and assert their place within the marriage.
At the same time, Asanda represents a modern perspective on love, one that both attracts and unsettles Msongelwa. Caught between tradition and desire, he finds himself navigating an internal battle that forces him to confront who he is and what he truly wants.
A RECKONING UNFOLDS
Mxakaza adds: “Beyond the drama, the series carries a strong message about accountability, respect and the importance of communication in relationships. It explores the consequences of choice, the value of emotional and spiritual alignment and the evolving roles of men and women within traditional structures.”
Season 2 also raises the stakes with heightened tension, moments of humour and raw emotional confrontations. As Msongelwa faces the fallout of his decisions, he is forced into a journey of humility, one that sees him reckon with his wives, his culture and himself.
