Botho University (BU) has launched a scholarship as part of their contribution to the educational development and also as a support to the financially challenged educational system of Botswana. The demand for more qualified professionals continues to grow, the demand isn’t meeting the supply with lesser funds for the Education sector to educate more Batswana.
On her part the keynote speaker, the Minister of Education and Skills Development (MoeSD), Dr Unity Dow expressed her sincere appreciation for the influential initiative the university has introduced and emphasized that this is of great importance to our educational system. She stated that the current budget given to her ministry is less than what is expected to be done as it covers utmost all institutions including training of employees of other ministries like health , which enable her only to do more with less and applauded BU in assisting her ministry to improve education. Dow further cited that institutions like BU has been very relevant and contributed immensely to skills development, pleaded on other institutions to follow on to the betterment of education. She urged institutions to build partnerships with financial institutions for study loans and other means of financial support as her ministry has budget constraint to sponsor more students.
The excited beneficiary, Prince Moatswi was handed over the scholarship to study Bsc in Network security and computer forensics and encouraged to do well on his studies and hold such an opportunity responsibly and inspire others to work hard to also acquire such privilege.
The scholarship covers up to 50% of tuition to Batswana nationals who qualify for BU admission criteria but do not qualify for the government scholarship. The scholarship award is based on a means test assessed by a committee composed of members of the BU management team.
