Classy alternative for non-alcohol drinkers launched

Social events oftentimes mean discomfort for non alcohol consumers who usually struggle to fit it as different alcoholic drinks oil the mingling and the conversation. Taking soft drinks or water will often attract discomfort or tense small talk but this will soon be a thing of the past with the launch of a trendy new beverage called Vigo in Botswana market. The bubbly is from Namibia and is made from malt in two very African flavours, Marula and Wild Orange.

In an interview at the launch and tasting event at Rail Park mall in Gaborone, the event organiser Lorato Tebogo of Incepta communications agency, explained that Vigo is a premium style drink that complements the elite lifestyle that is emerging in the city of Gaborone since the new CBD came up in posh social spots like Absolut Bar in Masa Centre and the 19-storey high Sky Lounge at iTowers. “Vigo is targeted at youth between 20 to 25 but the great thing about it is that in our country it has the alluring appeal to cater for a wider age range, up to people 35 years because of its positioning as a lifestyle bubbly,” Lorato said, adding also that the classy design of the bottle gives it a mature and premium brand image. Vigo has a sparkling texture to the tongue but smooth in taste, and is a competitor to premium soft drinks like Grapetiser.

Keneilwe, an IT specialist, who attended the tasting commented after having her moment with the malt soft drink that, “It is such a tasty drink and I can definitely see myself drinking it on a night out, particularly during those outings  when I do not feel like drinking”.  Onthatile Osego, another attendee said Vigo would go down well as a mixer for her whisky because of its sparkle and not so overbearing sweetness.

Tebogo said the drink was finally launched into the Botswana market after realising that there is a gap in the market particularly for those who do not drink alcohol.
Vigo is also running a competition which will give away  a party worth P90, 000, all expenses paid as the grand prize; a chance to walk away with a Bush Braai party at Mokolodi Nature Reserve, as well as weekly prizes like Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets and shopping vouchers.
Vigo is available at Liquorama, Spar, Pick n’ Pay and Sefalana outlets.
