MAQapella launches in Botswana

In its quest for a new MAQ song and following the success of the MAQapella South Africa, MAQ Washing Powder recently launched an amateur singing competition in Botswana for song birds who want a shot at stardom.  The competition invites all amateur accapella singers to sing for the newly selected panel of judges which include Gabz FM’s on air personality Tshepo Ntshole, House Kwasa star Vee Mampeezy, and South African film maker and actor Shona Ferguson.

“We are extremely excited about MAQapella Botswana and are eager to unearth the best talent this country has to offer. We’re looking for a new, original song for MAQ Washing Powder and what better way to do this than through a national song contest. We invite all amateur acapella singers to present to us their best original MAQ song and brighten our day!” said Jacqueline Jacobs, the Sales and Marketing Director at MAQ.

Judges will decide which of the amateur acapella singers goes through to the finals. Vee Mampeezy, whose musical career spans over a decade, said he was grateful to be a part of the MAQ initiative and could not wait to see Botswana’s beaming talent. Tshepo Ntshole expressed a similar sentiment,“Music is such a wonderful escape – it unites people. I can’t wait to be captivated by our talented, amateur Botswana singers.” For his part, Shona Ferguson, who produces and acts in the Rockville drama series, expressed “Immense excitement that I return to my home country Botswana to be a judge in the sensational MAQapella song contest. I can’t wait to experience and discover the exceptional talent!”

“We are giving amateur acapella singers an opportunity that will kick start their singing careers. Each of the celebrity judges brings their own criteria when judging to decide who makes it to the finals. MAQ Washing Powder brings the competition in association with Pick n Pay,” explained Jacobs.

The competition is open to groups and individuals who have not yet signed with a record label, are Batswana  and are over 18 years old.  Auditions will be held in various key locations including the Pick n Pay stores: Riverwalk, Molapo, Francistown, Sebele and Southring and also at Shoppers Palapye and Mahalapye. The winning group or individual will receive numerous prizes which include a P30 000 cash prize, a musical video recording deal, in-studio recording valued at P30 000, and MAQ products for a year. Furthermore, the winning song will be the new MAQ Washing Powder song for Botswana.
