Mawee shoots his first one man DVD

Local comedian, Oefile ‘Mawee’ Mokgware this past weekend shot part of his first comedy DVD at his one man show hosted at Cresta President Hotel. The award winning comedian will be shooting the rest of his DVD in the upcoming All Star Comedy tour which is a 7 town comedy series which kick started in Gaborone on the 31st of October. The 2014 President’s Day Champion and 2nd runner-up in a national competition featured local comedians Phenyo the master and Ouza.

Comedian he says he has yet to come up with a name for the DVD. “I will only be able give the DVD a title after I have compiled all my shows.  For now possible a title could be Mmolo Pita because that is my stage name. This is a stepping stone for me as a comedian because this shows growth in my career.” the Gabane native said.

Mawee’s manager, Gaolatlhe Kediemetse of Major Moves Comedy says opportunities for Mawee’s growth are plenty as one-man standup comedy shows are a worldwide phenomenon. “One man shows need a lot of material and Mawee has created enough content for his DVD to last for about 1hour 30 minutes plus behind the scenes shoots. It is thrilling to know that he has managed to gather so much content when he is relatively new in the comedy industry. Most international comedians usually have ten writers who come up with content for these comedian’s one man shows. The project is expected to be launched end of November 2014 towards the end of the tour.”

Mawee is one of the rising young comedians in the country. In May he came second in a national talent competition where he pocketed P50 000. He also won the 2014 President Day Comedy Competition. He recently performed in Johannesburg where he shared the stage with among others American Griff, Trevor Gumbi, Crazy Kay and the host Mashabela Galane. He has since been invited to perform in Rustenburg and Pretoria after he posted a video clip on YouTube which influenced the idea of a fully-fledged professional DVD.
