New Sensational Saturdays a hit

Saying goodbye to winter in style, the brand behind the now coveted annual All White Party, Blu Muffin Entertainment, has once again brought out a fun and exclusive event held at the Pavilion Restaurant this past Saturday. The event, dubbed Sensational Saturdays, was held under the theme sneaker check and saw young sneaker lovers from all over the city brave the chilly weather to showcase their favourite sneakers.

Blu Muffin Entertainment rolled out the first edition of what promises to be a series of monthly events primarily celebrating the urban lifestyle of young fellows in the city.

Commenting on the theme of the event, Blu Muffin’s Marketing Executive, Tlotlo Kgabo said “it is all about creative comfort. We wanted to shy away from the usual norm of party gear, especially high heels for the ladies, but still maintain our target market of the young and vibrant at heart. We came up with the theme sneaker check because we noticed an emerging sneaker culture among some youth in Gaborone so we decided to cater for the sneaker lovers out there and give them an opportunity to rock their favourite pairs.”

The sneaker check edition, which was hosted by rappers Scar and Linxstar, attracted a decent and youthful crowd. Even though everyone in attendance kept to the theme, most gave new meaning to the term ‘fashionably late’, as they kept their own Tswana time by arriving four to five hours later than the starting time. “I was a bit skeptical at first because I got here late but still found only about five people. But I ended up having a ball because the crowd is super chilled and everyone is having a good time,” said Wame Busang, who was part of the audience told Time Out.

Another attendant expressed disappointment in the music selection. “Not that I’m complaining but I really thought we were going to enjoy more hip hop than house music looking at the theme of the event. I don’t have a problem with house music but I’d really rather dance to old school hip hop in my Nikes,” the attendant said.

Kgabo said they hope for a larger attendance in future installments. The second one is scheduled for the end of September.
