The 2012 Mascom Volleyball League champions BDF VI and Kutlwano have extended their unbeaten run in their respective categories. BDF are performing well in the male division while Kutlwano are doing likewise in the female division.
Despite their unbeaten records, the sides are both second in their respective divisions as they have played fewer games so far. BDF VI is currently two points behind log leaders Diphatsa who have played two more games than the defending champions have. The club recorded a 3-1 victory over Police in Molepolole over the weekend to extend their winning run to 19 games.
Selebatso Mabutho’s side won all their games last season and they have targeted the same feat this season. The last time they tasted defeat was in the 2011 season where they finished the league as the runners up.
“We want to win the league again and challenge for the African club championship. Our aim is to become a force in the continent. Our training levels help us prepare for games and we never underestimate any opponent. We know that every team is determined to end our unbeaten run. We have assembled a squad of youngsters and experienced players and they have blended very well,” said the BDF VI coach.
Mabutho named Spiking Stars as the most dangerous team in the league. “They have a good record against the big sides in the league. Their form should worry all league clubs because they can punish those who underestimate them,” he added.
Stars recorded three victories over the weekend, they won 3-0 against Orapa and Itekeng before rounding off the weekend with a 3-1 victory over Police. They currently occupy third place on the log having played 19 games so far. In other weekend results, Mafolofolo beat Itekeng 3-1, Police defeated Orapa 3-0 and Kalavango lost 3-0 to Kutlwano.
In the women’s division Kutlwano extended their unbeaten run to 12 games this season after beating Kalavango 3-1. The defending champions could return to the top of the table if they win their game in hand; they are the only unbeaten side in the women’s division. Another match that took place in the women’s division ended in a 3-1 win for Dynamites against BDF VI.
