Binang heads to Singapore

BDF Cats goal shooter Hildah Binang is set to join Singapore Netball Super League side Sneakers Stingrays next month. The 20 –year- old will be with the Singapore side on a one month deal from April 22 until 24 May.
The young shooter has excelled in the local netball league, having won the shooter of the tournament in the latest edition of the league. Botswana Netball Association (BONA) President, Tebogo Lebotse confirmed the news in an interview with Gazette Sport on Monday.

“This is an exciting time for local netball. Hildah is a talented player who has the potential to become the best shooter in the country. She performed well in the league and we are delighted that she will be participating in the Singapore league. She has qualities that make her a great athlete; she has stamina, agility and height. She deserves her chance to showcase her talent,” said the BONA President.

International players are always invited to the Singapore Netball Super League and Lebotse stated that Binang could earn a chance to attend future tournaments if she performs well. “She has a chance to be invited more often if she impresses them; her form will determine whether or not they invite her again,” added Lebotse.

This is the second time in two years a Motswana player gets invited to the Singapore league.  In 2012 Judith Mawela, Tebogo Radipotsane and Ntebogang Motlakaleso participated in the league. Mawela represented Nike Marlins, Radipotsane played for Blaze Dolphins while Motlakaleso played for M1 Starfish. Singapore officials had spotted the players during the 2011 Netball World Championships prior to inviting them.

The trio enjoyed a successful spell in the tournament; Mawela’s side won the competition and earned her a gold medal while Radipotsane collected a silver medal after her side lost to Marlins in the final. Motlakaleso collected the Most Valuable Player (MVP) international award for an impressive tournament.
