Boy puts himself in the PSL market

Scoring a goal against South African Premier Soccer League champions Kaizer Chiefs is a rare feat for Botswana players let alone those who ply their trade in the PSL but Segolame Boy scored in his first appearance against Amakhosi. The Township Rollers forward has joined an elite group of Botswana players who have scored against the decorated South African football giants.

He is now amongst the likes of Diphetogo Selolwane, Phenyo Mongala, Mogakolodi Ngele and Mogogi Gabonamong who have all registered a goal against the Soweto outfit. Though his goal could not prevent Rollers from falling to a narrow 2-1 defeat against Chiefs in this weekend’s first leg CAF Champions League clash, it might prove crucial to the local champions when they meet Chiefs at the National Stadium in the second leg on February 28. Rollers will seek to advance to the first round by scoring and preventing Amakhosi from registering a goal.

Speculation has linked Boy with a move to the PSL next season with Platinum Stars and Mamelodi Sundowns credited with interest in the player. Sundowns sent their chief scout Russell Molefe to watch the former Miscellaneous player during a national team game last year. Molefe was reportedly impressed by Boy’s displays although the club is yet to make a formal inquiry about his services.
Stars are also believed to be targeting him as a replacement for Ngele who is expected to join Sundowns next season. The club could stand a better chance of signing him through their promise of regular first team football.

Gazette Sport understands that numerous scouts from PSL clubs have cast their eyes on the country’s most talked about player. This past weekend he gave any possible PSL suitors a glimpse of his attacking abilities.

The televised game had a big audience throughout the Southern African region and the forward announced himself in the biggest stage of African club football with the goal he scored. The player has surely attracted the interest if not the attention of other PSL clubs with his performance.

Rollers’ management has played down the significance of regular scouts at their games by stating that most of them were not on official assignments but rather visited their peers at the club. However, Rollers is known for keeping transfer news under wraps and they could be keeping their cards close to their chest in this case.
