Defending league champions Mochudi Centre Chiefs are currently locked in negotiations with Kekaetswe ‘Mara’ Moloi. They are on course to re-sign their former striker who was released by South African side Polokwane City last week.

In the past week, other top clubs such as BMC, Township Rollers and Gaborone United were rumoured to be interested in signing the free agent but Magosi are leading the chase. However, sources have revealed that the striker’s injury and signing on fee has forced some interested parties to reconsider signing him.

GU’s Herbert Letsebe has almost certainly ruled out a move for the striker by stating the following, “We understand his injury has not yet healed. It would be a risk to sign a player with a fitness issue; our technical team has not mentioned him as a transfer target. We cannot make a move without their recommendation.”

Another interested club, BMC, has confirmed their interest in the player. “We have made an inquiry about his availability but we haven’t discussed anything yet. We have been informed that he will not come cheap so we will see what happens,” said BMC coach Daniel Nare.

Magosi’s Public Relations Officer, Clifford Mogomotsi, informed Gazette Sport that they have been in contact with the player since last week Monday and are at an advanced level of negotiations.
“Negotiations are ongoing and already at an advanced stage. We want to conclude this deal before the end of the transfer window. You cannot ignore a player of his calibre when he is available. Many of our former players have returned to Chiefs in the past and Moloi is following in the footsteps of other players. We always forge good relationships with our players and their willingness to return always excites us,” said Mogomotsi.

Moloi was released by Polokwane City because of a recurring toe injury and Magosi stated that the injury would not disrupt their plans to reunite with their former striker.
“We are aware of his injury. In most cases, this would be a risky signing but we are willing to take that risk because he has a proven record with us. He will recover from his injury and help us push for more trophies,” continued the Magosi PRO.

The club’s management and the supporters have welcomed the prospect of having a list of strikers that include Moloi, Bonolo Frazer and Onalethata Tshekiso. Before his short-lived transfer to South Africa, Mara had endeared himself to the club’s supporters by winning back-to-back top scorer awards along with the same number of league titles.
Magosi’s strikers are currently struggling to score goals on a regular basis; Frazer is the only striker with double figures in terms of goals this season. Moloi had an average of 20 goals per season in his last season at Chiefs and his prolific record would surely add more strength to the club’s striking department.

If Chiefs conclude the signing, it will be the  third time they welcome a former player from the Premier Soccer League (PSL) in recent years. In 2010, Dirang Moloi was loaned by Magosi to Vasco Da Gama before returning a year later and Jerome Ramatlhakwane returned from the same PSL club last year.
