Chiefs to lose their top spot gap over alleged use of a defaulter

The Botswana Premier League could nullify Mochudi Centre Chiefs six points gap if it finds the log leaders guilty of fielding a defaulter in their match against Letlapeng FC.
Centre Chiefs captain Pontsho Moloi is said to have played despite having three yellow cards in this current season according to a protest by Letlapeng. This means he has contravened BFA Section 3.3 which states: “A player shall be automatically suspended for the next BFA official game for an aggregate of 3 yellow cards that he receives in 3 games through out the season.”
According to the Premier League records, Moloi got his first yellow card in the 65 minute against Gaborone United last year on 12 December, he also got cautioned against bitter rivals Township Rollers on 31 January 2015 and rookies Sankoyo Bush Bucks on 26 February 2015.

BFA Play Rules and Regulations section 6.1.1 says a defaulter is a player who plays while under suspension. If Centre Chiefs is found guilty it will be docked three points and two goals which will subsequently be awarded to opposing team(s) for every game that the defaulter shall have played in a given season, according to BFA section 6.2.1. A fine of not less than P1 000.00 and not exceeding P2 000.00 is also hanging on the Kgatleng giants.

Magosi are currently at the top of the log with 50 points while Orapa United is on the second spot with 44 points. However the six points lead could narrow soon if the Premier League judges that Chiefs is guilty.

One Centre Chiefs official confirmed on Monday that Letlapeng has sent them a copy of their protest. This publication could not reach the Premier League CEO Bennett Mamelodi for confirmation of receiving the protest. His secretary said she did not receive the protest but said  maybe Letlapeng Chairman Sidney Magagane could have handed the protest to Mamelodi physically as they were in a BPL board meeting that day.
