GU trio resumes training

Gaborone United has received a boost ahead of the new season after three of their key players resumed training this week. Noah Maposa, Moemedi Moatlhaping and Alphonse Modisaotsile are gradually recovering from their respective injuries which ruled them out of national team action this weekend.

Maposa and Moatlhaping had sustained knee injuries while Modisaotsile had a thigh muscle problem. The club’s captain, Maposa, sustained the injury after falling awkwardly during pre- season training. He returned to first team action this past weekend after making a second half appearance in a friendly match against Thamaga side, Sanyane Celtic.

The first choice goalkeeper would have given his also experienced substitute, Kagiso Tshelametsi, a chance to fill in for his teammate if he had not resumed training. The side’s squad depth has been lauded by fans and analysts, with midfielder Modisaotsile completing the whole game.

The pair’s involvement in the friendly will give David Bright a sense of relief since the side has five days to prepare for their first league game of the season against Miscellaneous. Moatlhaping started training this week and he is expected to be fully fit for the game. The sides will clash at the Palapye Stadium on Sunday at 3pm.

Meanwhile, GU has been criticized for withdrawing their players from the national team in recent weeks; the club had stated that injuries and a lack of sufficient playing time in pre- season had forced them to retain their squad for league preparation purposes.
