Motor show off to an impressive start

The 1st annual Airport Junction Motor show was officially opened last week Friday, ushering in an interactive and fun weekend for the motor industry, potential buyers and enthusiasts, who were also afforded an opportunity to see and experience some of their dream cars.

Speaking to Time Out, one of the organizers from Onsite Media (Pty) Ltd, Christian Ernest said, “The idea of the motor show came onboard because we realized that we haven’t had a motor show in the past 3 years. So we designed this motor show to provide the widest and most comprehensive profile of Botswana’s motor industry and associated businesses for our local market. The turnout is great and the car dealers are happy with the sales they were able to make as well the enquiries,” Ernest said.

Exhibitors ensured all guests were engaged and entertained with elaborate unveilings and performances, while some revealed their latest models to the local market. Some of the premiering cars included the Mercedes Benz A-CLASS sedan and the CLA 45 AMG, the Lexus IS series, Ford Eco sport, Nissan Olmera and Centra as well as the Volvo XC60.

The fun and action continued as the highlight of the event included the appearance of exotic cars that attracted a lot of attention from sports cars fanatics. They included the Maserati Quattroporte, Rolls Royce Phantom, Ferrari California, Chevrolet Corvette and the Ferrari 360.

The show attracted masses including renowned South African actress and TV presenter Boitumelo ‘Boity’ Thulo who made an appearance alongside Botswana and Tanzania’s  2013 Big Brother Africa representatives Zibanani ‘Oneal’ Madumo and Feza Kessy r.

Also speaking to Time Out was one of the show’s attendees, Obakeng Lesejane who said, “I am quite impressed with the way the dates of the show were booked.  Everyone had a chance to come witness and maybe carry out thorough research on the type of vehicle they wanted. The environment is relaxed and the show’s tickets are affordable. The show offered me more than I expected. I got a chance to see and take pictures with celebrities as well as learn about the cars and also to pose in all of the lovely cars!”

According to the organizers, next year’s motor show will also be hosted on the last quarter of the year  and will feature passenger cars, exotic cars, commercial cars, trucks and buses, parts and accessories, finance and insurance, leisure and lifestyle with  all local dealers represented.
