Sembowa: The lord of the Mascom Top 8

The fourth edition of the Mascom Top 8 Cup final was special for various reasons. Township Rollers made history when they became the first side to reach three finals in the competition’s four years of existence.

More importantly, Gaborone United striker Tebogo ‘Tebza’ Sembowa walked away with a third winner’s medal, making him the first ever player to achieve that feat. Sembowa got his first gold medal back in 2012 after scoring for Township Rollers in a 3 – 1 win against Ecco City Greens (one of his former clubs).

He transferred to Gaborone United the following season, where he won another gold medal in a final against BDF XI.Again, he scored to help The Reds beat the army side 2 – 1 in 2013. Though he sat on the bench in GU’s 2 – 1 win over Rollers last month, he still bagged yet another winner’s medal.

“My first medal was a bittersweet one because I was playing against my former Team Ecco but i was happy to score. The second medal was special as I managed to score against BDF XI at the Final and I was amongst the competition’s top scorers,” said Sembowa.

Asked about what it’s like to play in a cup final, he said that nothing compares to getting that medal and lifting a trophy. “Playing in the Final is an experience worth cherishing, you play five games and win one million Pula” Tebogo concluded.
