The highly-anticipated Top 30 contestants vying to become Miss Botswana 2022 have officially been announced. But the development has ruffled a few feathers, with some maintaining Palesa Molefe should continue her reign.
Nevertheless, the organisers of the national pageantry are eager to assure members of the public that the hopefuls are an impressive and diverse group that was narrowed down by a skilled panel of judges introduced two weeks ago.
“Auditions closed 28 July and with so many beautiful and intelligent women in Botswana,” said Benjamin Raletsatsi of Advance Institute, who are the licence holders of Miss Botswana.
Selection process
Raletsatsi noted that this year’s selection process was digitised to create an experience to use technology and the online space. The panel made their selection from entries by looking for “The Face” of Miss Botswana – Beauty with a Purpose in the images submitted.
In addition, contestants who had a motivating answer about why they wanted to be the next Miss Botswana stood chances of selection. The selection criteria also favoured those who articulated themselves well in answering questions in the pageantry entry forms.
Said Raletsatsi: “This year, progression into the Top 15 will be determined by how the ladies perform by public vote (SMS line), Top 30 Selection Panel Gym Session, a professional photography session and social media. The four ladies with the most likes, shares and comments on their pictures will automatically progress to the Top 15.”
The Top 30 Miss Botswana contestants joined trainer Victor Leshomo for a session sponsored by Jack’s Gym last Friday.
Brando joins Miss Botswana team
Fresh from his former job as a morning radio show presenter, Brando Keabilwe was announced as Assistant General Manager of the Miss Botswana 2022 pageant. He is responsible for overseeing and managing daily business operations and developing growth strategies for Miss Botswana 2022.
Keabilwe will also be leading a team of creative professionals and overseeing the design layout and visual impact of marketing materials.
