Botswana Football Association is set to announce the extension of head coach Peter Butler’s contract before the COSAFA Cup tournament. Butler and the BFA have already reached a verbal agreement and the Englishman is expected to put pen to paper in the next few weeks.
Information gathered by this publication states that the coach’s contract extension will be renewed and announced before the team leaves for the COSAFA Cup tournament. Butler is currently on a short term three month contract which elapses at the end of next month.

The former West Ham United midfielder is also without a work permit but the BFA successfully applied for a waiver and temporary residence for him while awaiting the official announcement and finalization of his contract. According to the association, the waiver will enable him to continue his duties while awaiting official confirmation from the association.
Contacted for comment BFA spokesperson Tumo Mpatane told Gazette Sport that they hope to make an announcement soon. “We have not finalized anything yet but an agreement has been reached in principle. We hope to make a formal announcement on his long term future soon. We applied for a waiver and he has all the necessary documents and temporary residence,” Mpatane briefly stated.
The coach is expected to sign a new three year deal as this publication previously reported last month.
